Making Rapidshare Premium Work With Starhub MaxOnline
Starhub Maxonline uses transparent proxies in order to censor access to websites as well as to save bandwidth.
However, this screws up access to Rapidshare Premium as, in default configuration, Rapidshare detects simultaneous downloads as being accessed through multiple IP addresses.
Based on my investigations, Starhub load-balances their proxy servers based on destination IP addresses. In Rapidshare Premium's default settings, download servers are randomised and therefore accessed via different proxy servers and therefore causes Rapidshare to detect multiple IP addresses on the same Premium account.
To overcome this, it is necessary to force Rapidshare to use a single download server which will result in a single transparent proxy and therefore IP address.
This can be set in the Rapidshare Settings page and should fix most problems regarding transparent proxies and Rapidshare Premium. This interim solution has worked well for me in the three days preceding the writing of this article.
